Ok, this is not exactly a camera company, but I thought that I would congratulate TomTom on their response when my GPS developed a problem. My happy story:

My GPS developed a problem, and so I phoned TomTom. They decided that I should return the unit, and sent a prepaid bag (which guaranteed pre 1pm delivery) along with a custom cardboard housing to fit the GPS into.

I took the parcel to the post office on the Saturday, and by 11:00am on the Monday, I had an email acknowledging receipt of the parcel. Within two hours, I had another email to say that a replacement had been posted.

The replacement unit (in the same protective packaging) arrived at 07:50 on Tuesday in a guaranteed before 9am bag.

What a very efficient, prompt, and informative bit of support, and it certainly made me a very satisfied customer. :)

Well done TomTom.

Nice one John. I just bought the "Go 520T" a few weeks ago so nice to know their support is good. Was a great help on my recent trip up north. Would not go on a long trip without it!

That's a shame hotchef. Perhaps though my recent good experiences were a direct result of improvements made after negative feedback?

If ya wanna recycle it then send it my way and maybe I can get it fixed :-)

I'm not sure about TomTom. I like my PDA version but their support for upgrading is poor: I want a updated map but can't find out whether the version currently on offer to buy is actually updated or same as what I have, plus the cost! Then seems I can't upgrade my current version of the application - I must buy new. You have to use third party forums to get any kind of useful info. if there is a problem as well.

I bought a TomTom One V2 last month and it's been a godsend.
I read the pdf manual to get the most out of it and looking forward to using it on my photography expeditions.

My only regret is that Les is no longer here as I was going to badger him for the Viz Comic Character voice he has on his (the one he has to change when his mother in law is in the car with him)
It had me in stitches the last time we met at Glencoe.

I'm happy enough with the built in computer one (as it speaks all of the street names too), but a quick search on Google should reveal a few places to get the Viz voice.

Great to hear of a positive experience with a Company. Although I must admit to having a laugh at the thread and our dependence on electronic devices.

An experience that comes to mind was whilst talking to my friend John, an A310 Airbus pilot for Air Transat. Despite the modern day glass cockpits, with more computer screens than Microsoft, triple redundancy, satellite navigation, radar, radio, even cellular and shortwave for back ups. FAA regulations state that they cannot take off without physical paper maps in the cockpit.

So.... I hope that you still carry one in your glove pocket for you never know when your GPS is going to go on the fritz.
