Just thought I should add a recommendation for Lenses for Hire http://www.lensesforhire.co.uk/
They are quite new, started up this year. So far they have proved to be an excellent service. Stewart is quick to reply to my many questioning emails
I ordered a 10-22mm EF-S from the website, it was posted out monday I got it tuesday, and my hire starts at 00:01 Wednesday. That is good service! Hiring from calumet or somewhere has never been economical as you were paying for the time in transit. Not with Lenses for Hire, you get every day you paid for in full, all 24hours of them!
The lens arrives in a good sized box with excellent foam cut packaging and return labels, so easy to use! It comes with a protective Hoya Pro1 filter which is good as it keeps the lenses clean.
The prices are good, I could not afford to spend £500 on a lens I only would use occasionally, so being able to hire it for a week for £26-50 (with insurance) is a great bargain.
There are several options for getting the lens shipped to you, but for those of us north of the border, Royal Mail Special Delivery is the method. Thankfully this is a proper next day service and you don't get the hassle with couriers. You have to factor postage into the final cost, and for two or more lenses this comes to £20 each way. But compare that to have to save up the £2000 for the lenses, that is still cheap!
You can reserve lenses for up to 3 months in advance, and also if all their lenses are out of stock, then they will considering buying one for you.
A bonus is that for most people a deposit is not needed thankfully. It means you do not have to pay by credit card.
So a highly recommended service! I will certainly be using them quite a lot in the future, I have put off buying a new walk around lens as I can now hire what I need, when I need it!
Cheers,
Sam
