Hey all.
Thought I'd post some feedback (positive) on Canon Australia.
A couple of months back, I shot a wedding with a pair of 5Ds. Toward the end of the day as the sun was dipping lower, I fired a couple of high shutter speed shots to attempt a silhouette effect. I then hear a muffled clunk and I can no longer look through the viewfinder.
I removed the lens to find the mirror dislodged from the mechanism. As distraught as I was, I continued the wedding with one camera.
The following week, I contacted a local repair shop to inquire how much it'd cost to repair an out of warranty 5D. They said that it'd be $150+ just to look at it and provide a quote. A couple of friends then suggested I send it to Canon which I ended up doing.
Upon waiting a few days after posting, I posted a update request via the online form.
------------------------
Your enquiry: Hi. Was just wondering what the turnaround time for quote/repair would be for this service request. Also wondering whether this is a known fault with earlier releases of the 5D. There seems to be a lot of discussion online about it. Thanks.
------------------------
They then replied with:

Hi Laurence/Service Team.
Quotation Accepted. Please proceed with repair job.
Please advise payment method (CC, Direct Deposit etc).
Regards
Feng.
Upon doing a few more investigations and venting on other forums, I decided I'd try my luck and have a polite whinge.
Hi Service Team.
A shame that there wasn't an announcement. I cannot believe a camera of this calibre with only ~18k actuations can have something like this happen to it. So many people have discussed this problem to a point where I'm surprised that there wasn't a 'bad batch' or similar.
FYI, check out:

Anyway, please let me know if there is any change to the eta.
Thank you.
Regards
Feng
I wasn't really expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised when I received the following email:
Good Morning Feng,
Thank you for emailing us concerning the problem with your EOS 5D.
I have discussed further with my supervisor concerning the assessment of your EOS 5D and had a second opinion carried out.
We have on this occasion elected to repair at no charge.

In addition to this wonderful news, the camera was returned, repaired, free of charge in less than 10 working days.
Definitely kudos to Canon AU for this one!
Thought I'd share that with you all. :)
