Hi there,
Recently, I was lucky enough to visit Vancouver as part of my 40th birthday trip and took a few shots of the harbour from Stanley Park.
Can you offer me you honest opinions on the shot below? What could I have done to improve on the shot?

A couple of things for me.
1. Tell them to stop building the new tower block so you don't have cranes in the shot. :)
2. The foreground rocks are too dominating, perhaps if you'd moved a few paces left, perhaps got in the river, those two big boulders would be removed from the shot. I'm guessing you wanted to show Vancouver in the early morning light, however it only fills about an 1/8th of the shot.
Hope you had a great 40th.

The foreground rocks are too dominating,
Agreed I'm afraid, a higher viewpoint of a bit closer to the waters edge would have been better, as it is crop to a pano?
Your verticals are just a bit out, slight lean to the left but otherwise, choice of shutter speed, ND grad etc. looks fine.

Hi Mark,
Absolutely right about the cranes. I did put in a request, but you know what builders are like!!
Thanks for your comments about the rocks. Composition is my biggest downfall, can you recommend anything to help me improve?

Hi Bill,
Appreciate your comments. Did notice the lean but looked like it was leaning to the right a little and was concerned about the horizon being out if I altered it.

Hmmm difficult, try as many shots as you can from a location (digital is cheap), different heights perspectives and walk around and try and think what it would like on screen.
Not much help really sorry.
