fancy going to one of the above islands on my week off in may
both look tempting
like the look of some of the beaches. should be good for sunrise / sunset
what do you recommend. also what areas are the best to stay. will be hiring a cottage . quite fancy one overlooking the beach

Haven't been on Uist but having been on Harris and Lewis, I must say there is a lot of photography to be had in both islands.

Probably best being based on Harris. You can then get a ferry to Berneray and cross the causeway to Uist if you fancy it.

Carolyn and I stayed in a B&B on Scalpay Island (linked by bridge to Harris) a few miles from Tarbet. It proved a good centre for exploring Harris and Lewis. Never been to Uist.
The beaches on the west side of Harris are stunning for sunsets. We were there in June and sat comfortably on the beach at 10pm at night, watching and photographing the sun go down over the Atlantic. Heaven! :)

I've camped on North Uist and Berneray (linked by causeway) not much to see inland but if beautiful white sandy beaches with towering dunes are your thing then I'd highly recommend spending a day or two, it's a very peaceful part of the world.
