Does this work?

I was reading in a magazine about triptychs. I photographed the fungi in this one yesterday afternoon and felt that each photograph on its own wouldn't be very appealing so I made a single image of three of them, with a black background which I hoped would complement the colours of the images.

It's an excellent idea for these kind of shots. You need to pay attention to the overall balance, which you have here.

Individually the shots are good but have some distracting elements at the edges which could have been 'gardened' out before pressing the shutter. They could also be cloned out in software.

The individual images are very good, bearing in mind Mike's gardening tips.
The framing I find a bit heavy but that's frames for you ......... each to their own.

Thank you, both. I see exactly what you mean about the distractions around the edges and I'm actually a bit miffed with myself that I didn't notice until it was pointed out to me! I'll go do some digital 'gardening'!

I've done some more work to it. I've completely removed some of the distractions and blended in others. I've also given the finished image a contrast and sharpening boost. I agree the border was a bit on the heavy side so I've narrowed that too.

I shall remember to do my 'gardening' before I press the shutter in future, but do you think I've improved it?
