I'm seriously thinking of going on this in 2010

It was the main prize in the TPOTY new talent section.
I didnt win, but want to book it anyway as I want to travel. Lovely as Skye is, it gets a bit monotonous at times when you live here
All I've got to do is decide which dates will suit me best.

This bit sounds excellent
For the second overnight experience we will take you too one of the most stunning places in Europe Lomnicky Peak 2635M, we have special permission for our Tatra workshop group to stay overnight in the apartment on the mountain peak to photograph the neighbouring peaks and valleys of the Slovak & Polish Tatras, this unique opportunity for sunset & sunrise shooting is not to be missed, and on those clear nights we can practice star trail photography. (Dont worry for this location we will take the cable car)

I'm already on the fitness/weightloss case Sue ;)
I'm swaying towards October dates for tatras workshop, although they are releasing a September 'peak to peak' one soon.

Oh my holly lolly.
Rob thank you for bringing this to my attention.
Hi Marie,
Low Tatras are definitely amazing. Let me know if you would like to come (or anybody else). I would be more than happy if someone moves my lazy butt. Low Tatras are very famous for its crest hike. If you wish you can manage the whole crest in 5 days. I tried it this year but after 2,5 days we had to surrender as the weather didn't allow us to continue. There are some nice places where you can stay for night. One of those is this one (http://www.nizketatry.sk/chaty/chmrstefanika/chmrstefanika.html) which is located right below highest peak of Low Tatras - Dumbier. Accommodation there is rather cheap comparing to Western Europe prices (I guess around 7 GBP/night) so definitely no need to book some extremely expensive workshop unless you really want to participate on it.
Let me know if you really consider your trip here. There are few more locations that would be worth for consideration too: Western Tatras and High Tatras. All those are relatively close to each other (Western Tatras are continuation of High Tatras located western of High Tatras while Low Tatras are south of High and Western Tatras, approx. 1 hour drive).

One more thing to add to this. I've just spotted what's included in the price of workshop and I can see there a return flight from luton to poprad. Well there used to be a regular flight on this route operated by Skyeurope airlines which went bankrupt about 2-3 months ago and as far as I know there are currently no flights from London to Poprad so before you book it, rather double-check it.

Danube wings/vip wings have taken over the flights from luton to poprad.
I havent booked yet Lukas, but I'm seriously considering it.
I'm just wondering about the climate/weather at the times on offer.
Is it better to go in June or October?

Oh Lord I missed this one .
I'm totally crazy. Well the price of the workshop is getting reasonable considering one night on Lomicky peak. Hopefully there won't be windy weather and lift will operate. This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1j_pUDt__Eg) is very nice video where you can see High Tatras at the very beginning and also the way how you'll get to the peak. And this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbFMSFnWQ1Y&feature=related) is total craziness.

Well Marie,
that's a terribly tough question these years when the whole climate is changing so rapidly.
If the weather is the same (in June and October - meaning nice sunny days), here are few things to consider:
In June it's usually warmer hence visibility is not that great as it can be in October after few days/weeks of rain which used to be common for autumn, while days are much much longer in June comparing to October. In June it could be sometimes below 10 degress Celsius while usually in this area it's about 20 while in October definitely nights and mornings could reach 0 level or lower and sometimes when the weather is crazy the first snow falls in Tatras then. So come in June on your own and we'll do some trips so you won't spend much money here :D and then you can do the workshop in October or vice versa ;).
Definitely let me know.

I realise it would a lot cheaper without the workshop.
I think flights from Luton are about 79 euro each way ;)
Maybe we could get other IPF members interested enough to do a meet, and you could help by being our guide Lukas?

I would be more than pleased to welcome you here.
Flights to Poprad are not the cheapest ones as there's no competition on this route so if anyone is on budget you better consider flights to Bratislava (Slovakia's capital) and from there you could take a train (about 4 hours for about 15 EUR one way). If there's no need to stay in few stars hotels then apartments could be found for about 10EUR/night or I might be able to find something even cheaper for you. Just organize something and come anytime you wish.

I'm working on heading on out there, problem is travelling from Aberdeen is even more complicated as you have to do a hop, skip, jump and maybe find a hoop or two!

You think its any easier from Skye?
My plan would be to fly down to Luton from Glasgow after dropping my dogs off in kennels. Then fly Luton to Poprad, either with the workshop or in an organised group.

Woah.... what a fantastic place this is. Lukas, I think you are ever so kind to make this offer, and I'd also love to attend a trip to such a stunningly beautiful location. If I ever get the time (and money) I'll be asking you where to stay!
Marie - I hope you have a superb time.
