This is Traigh na Clibhe beach on Lewis.

Not the biggest wave in the word but he's on it.
Some big breakers earlier in the morning before this guy arrived.

1DMKII - 500L plus 1.4TC on a tripod and he must be 300 yards away and still this is a heavy crop.

The resolving power of that lens is amazing. Considering the addition of the converter and the crop, its full of detail.
Lovely stuff, Cameron. :D

Mmmmm tasty...
Its the way you've caught the look of "Oh no...." on his face.
Another wee dunk in the mighty Atlantic pending.
Considering the obvious distance you've taken this from its very clear as well.

Photographing surfers in this sort of conditions can be very boring and frustrating, I did the same recently when I got an 80-400mm lens but was bored out of my skull before too long. The surfers seemed to be determined to swim all the way to America but weren't getting anywhere, and when they finally got up on a wave it was just like your chap here. I've asked a surfer friend of mine to alert me next time there are good waves.
Can't fault the photo by the way, just a pity it wasn't a bigger wave.

I dread to think how cold that water is.
