Default Castlerigg Stone Circle

Here's one of sunrise at Castlerigg Stone Circle in Cumbria from last weekend's wet IPF Lake District meet. The stones date from around 3200BC, so no doubt they've seen lots of soggy weekends.

..and probably lots of soggy week days as well.
Quite like this (not as much as mine, obviously) as you seem to have balanced the exposure between the stones and sky fairly well. Composition wise, there's only so much you can do with a stone circle.
Mind you, looking at this, maybe a set of ladders (seriously) would help give height and a more 'circular' comp.

Gorgeous sky there and very atmospheric photo all round - can just imagine Billy Connolly dancing round these stones although somehow I don't think sunrise is quite his thing!

Ps For those who don't know, Billy Connolly danced naked at the Ring of Brodgar in Orkney when making his World Tour TV series!

Wow get the sunglasses out, amazing colours....looks like you've taken Neily's tip of pushing the saturation 'til the eyes bleed. I have a similar one too, but now I look at it again after this it looks quite subdued

Thanks John, and good idea about the ladders - except that even carrying a tripod takes serious commitment on my part as it is!

I've been to the Ring of Brodgar, and fortunately not at the same time as Billy Connolly. Thanks Babs.

Thanks Neil and Sue. I did boost the saturation somewhat, so that there was something to salvage from the sunrise.

I have been seriously considering putting a small set of stepladders in the car for opportunities such as these.
On the other hand, a number of stone circles are ruined photographically by low protective fences and you have to get low outside the mound to try and avoid them.

A great shot John from what was apparently a very soggy weekend and has (little) John points out, a well balanced sky and ground.

That is some sky considering the circumstances.

WOW factor John. I like the color of the sky, and I find it very atmospheric, nicely done John.

I must have blinked and missed this display of colour. You got a good balance of the detail of the sky against the stones.

The colours are out of this world.. very much "the end of the World is nigh"! Regarding the soggy weekends, I do believe that these stones were around 20 times this size when first erected.. they have shrunk since!

Thanks David. The sunrise was a bit disappointing as the best bits were hidden behind the trees, and by the time the sun rose above them, it then disappeared into the clouds.

Thanks Mel. The colours were there, but needed some saturation to bring them out.

I really like this...the colours are great..I would like to see a little more exposure on the foreground but other than that lovely.

You could easily sort that out with an exposure Blend
